TC Slim – Study app tracking 2023.08.09-play

Following Google's Play Store policies, this version of TrackerControl does not block tracking.

TrackerControl Slim is an Android app that enables users to analyze the widespread and covert data collection found in mobile apps related to user behavior ("tracking").

To identify tracking techniques, TrackerControl utilizes the Disconnect tracker list, a resource also employed by Firefox, along with our proprietary tracker list developed from the examination of approximately 2,000,000 apps.

Furthermore, TrackerControl identifies tracker libraries in apps by utilizing signatures from ClassyShark3xodus/Exodus Privacy for analyzing these libraries embedded within app code.

The application also aims to raise awareness about users' rights under Data Protection Law, such as the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Under the hood, TrackerControl leverages Android's VPN functionality to locally analyze apps' network communications on the Android device. This is made possible through a local VPN server implemented by TrackerControl for network traffic scrutiny. The VPN setup is an extension of the groundwork laid by NetGuard.

No rooting is necessary for TrackerControl, and it does not support other VPNs or Private DNS services. To ensure data security, no external VPN server is utilized during operation.
